Patara Elephant Sanctuary THAILAND

In the spring of 2019 I was fortunate enough to travel to Thailand with my vibrational sound “tribe”, and our teacher Jeff Howard, 25 strong. We were headed to the Patara Elephant Farm deep in the mountains of Chiang Mai. We were going there to witness the healing effects our Himalayan singing bowls had on these gentle beasts. Patara uses holistic modalities for healing…acupuncture, herbs, laser therapy and Himalayan singing bowls.

Patara is a health-recovery and reproduction-management farm for elephants. Its focus is on educating the public on elephants and the threats they face. To do this, the farm pairs visitors up with an elephant for a day and assigns them the task of caring for that elephant. As of December 2014, the farm is home to 55 elephants. It is located in the mountains near Hang Dong Valley, 45 minutes south of Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was founded in 2001 by a man named Theerapat "Pat" Trungprakan's and his wife Anocha "Dao" with the goal of preserving the elephant population in Thailand. Theerapat says there is much sacrifice involved, and says he and the other caretakers spend more time with the elephants than with their wives The elephants' caretakers, known as mahouts, are from a nearby Karen village and are paired-up with their own elephant to take care of.

The photo to the right was taken moments after I worked with grandma Mae for 20 minutes. I used my bowls and healing hands. When I stopped, I grabbed her face and we both just stared…no blinking…just connection. What was the result of this session…was it measurable? I checked her eyes. Mae’s eyes were dilated. I checked her trunk. Her trunk had lost many of its wrinkles. Then I knew she trusted me and felt safe.
